If you’re getting ready for the NYSC orientation camp, one important thing to learn is the NYSC Anthem. This is more than just a song. It’s a promise to serve Nigeria with unity, honesty, and selflessness.

At the orientation camp, recite the anthem during morning parades, official gatherings, and other events. Learning it by heart will help you feel more confident, fit in faster, and understand what NYSC truly stands for.
The NYSC Anthem Lyrics
To make this easy, below are the lyrics of the NYSC anthem. I’ve also included the audio recital to aid your learning.
Youths obey the clarion call
Let us lift our nation high
Under the sun or in the rain
With dedication and selflessness
Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.Members, take the great salute
Put the Nation first in all
With service and humility
NYSC for the noble youths
Make Nigeria a great nation.Far and near we come to serve
And to build our fatherland
With oneness and loyalty
NYSC for unity
Hail Nigeria, our great nation.

What the Anthem Represents
The anthem, composed in 1984 by serving corps member Oluwole Adetiran, is rich in meaning and aligns with the objectives of the Scheme.
Below is my attempt at explaining it:
“Youths obey the clarion call:” This line speaks to the responsibility and urgency of national service. The clarion call refers to the call to serve Nigeria selflessly.
“Under the Sunโ๏ธ or in the Rain:๐ง๏ธ” Corps members are expected to give their best no matter the condition. This symbolizes endurance and patriotism.
“NYSC for Unity:” A core goal of the NYSC scheme is to promote national integration. The anthem reinforces the idea that Nigeriaโs strength lies in its unity.
“Make Nigeria a Great Nation:” This is a reminder to corps members that their service contributes to nation-building.
The NYSC anthem is more than just a ceremonial song. It’s a declaration of your commitment to national unity, service, and progress.
Learning it before going to camp will not only help you integrate smoothly but also remind you of the noble purpose youโve signed up for. So take time to master it, live by its message, and serve Nigeria with pride.
Remember, โNigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.โ
