How to Get NERD Clearance Slip for NYSC Mobilization

If you are getting ready for NYSC, chances are you have heard something about the NERD clearance slip. It is the newest additional requirement for NYSC eligibility which was introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

NERD Clearance slip for NYSC

The Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) is responsible for keeping all academic works such as projects, theses, and certificates in a verified national database. This initiative is part of a broader effort to digitize academic records and strengthen the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.

The Meaning of NERD Clearance

The NERD clearance slip is the official confirmation that a graduate’s academic work, such as a project, dissertation, or thesis, has been uploaded, verified, and stored in Nigeria’s national education database.

Once your school and NERD verify your details, your record is permanently secured and assigned a unique number called the National Credential Number (NCN) or the National Document Number (NDN). This number makes your record easy to verify anytime it is needed.

The database is managed by the Federal Ministry of Education and it serves several important functions. It supports NYSC mobilization, employment verification, and checks requested by embassies or foreign missions.

Why It’s Important For NYSC Mobilization

Starting from NYSC Batch C 2025, only graduates whose project works have been successfully uploaded and verified on the NERD platform will be cleared for mobilization. This policy is part of a national effort to ensure that every name on the NYSC senate list belongs to someone whose academic record has been properly verified.

Latest Update: The NYSC NERD compliance 2025 Batch C has been temporarily paused to allow schools and graduates more time to adjust to the new process. Full enforcement of the NERD system will now begin in 2026.

If you have already completed your upload, your NYSC NERD clearance 2025 Batch C slip will still be valid on the NERD system for future verification.

NERD clearance does not replace the senate list, green card, or call-up letter. It works alongside them as an extra proof that a prospective corps member’s academic record exists in the national education databank.

The process for getting the NERD clearance slip is completely digital via the NERD onboarding portal. You don’t need to visit any office, pay anyone, or submit printed documents. Once your project is uploaded and cleared, your record stays in the system permanently and can be referenced whenever needed.

Understanding How NERD Clearance Works

The NERD clearance system was designed to make every graduate’s academic record traceable and verifiable within the national database. To achieve this, both institutions and students have specific roles to play in the process.

At the simplest level, your school handles your academic credentials, while you as a graduate, are responsible for uploading your project through the NERD registration process. Once both sides complete their parts, your record becomes part of the national databank managed by NERD.

How Your School Participates In The Process

Each tertiary institution in Nigeria is required to appoint NERD officials who manage the process within the school. They include a NERD Focal Officer, a Record Officer, and a Digitisation Officer.

These officials are in charge of uploading the school’s official records such as certificates, transcripts, and approved result sheets. When those records are entered into the NERD system, they are validated and assigned a National Credential Number (NCN) along with security features like QR or frame codes for instant verification.

Although the credential upload component is part of the larger NERD plan, it is being implemented gradually to give institutions time to adjust. For now, the main focus is on student project uploads.

How You Participate as a Student

Your role as a graduate is to upload your project report through your personal NERD dashboard. This process is known as NERD onboarding. It certifies that your academic work has been officially submitted, validated, and preserved in the national database.

To do this, you will create an account on the NERD onboarding portal, log in, and upload your project following the required format. The system automatically organizes your work into sections, such as abstract, introduction, and conclusion, and stores it permanently once it has been verified.

When your submission is accepted, it becomes part of the National Credential Verification System (NCVS), which allows organizations and agencies to verify your academic record in the future.

The Relationship Between NYSC and NERD

The connection between NERD and NYSC lies in record verification. NYSC relies on the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank to confirm that every prospective corps member has an authentic academic record stored in the national database.

While NERD clearance is now a requirement for mobilization, it does not replace any of the usual NYSC registration steps. You will still go through your school’s senate list approval and complete your registration on the NYSC portal as before.

However, starting from Batch C 2025, NYSC will only clear graduates whose project works are listed on the NERD database. Full enforcement, including certificate uploads by institutions, is expected to begin from 2026.

The goal is simple. Every graduate mobilized for NYSC should have a traceable and verified academic record that can be confirmed instantly anywhere in the country. The NERD NYSC collaboration makes this easy.

How To Process NERD Clearance Slip For NYSC

Getting your NERD clearance slip for NYSC is a simple online process that takes only a few steps if you follow it carefully. The entire procedure happens on the official NERD website which you can complete using your phone or a computer.

Step 1: Onboard Yourself on the NERD Portal

Visit the NERD enrollment portal to begin. The NERD onboarding process is divided into three segments: Email, Details, and KYC.

  • Under Email, fill in your email address and create a strong password with at least eight characters. A confirmation link will be sent to your email. Check your inbox and also your spam or junk folder in case the message lands there.
  • After confirming your email, you’ll be taken to the Details segment. Fill in your personal details exactly as they appear on your school records. Once you’re done, proceed to the next segment.
  • Under the KYC segment, provide your contact details, address, and next of kin information. You’ll also upload your passport photograph, means of identification, and attestation letter.
  • The means of identification can be your NIN, international passport, or driver’s licence. The attestation letter can be your certificate or any document communicated by your school.

Once everything is filled correctly, submit your application and check your email for the submission status.

To Avoid Upload Errors:

  • Passport must be in photo format and not more than 300KB
  • Means of ID must be in photo format and not more than 350KB. Reduce the file size here.
  • The attestation letter must be in PDF format and less than 350KB. Convert into PDF here.

Step 2: Upload Your Project on NERD Portal

  • Visit https://ned.gov.ng/login and log in using your registered email and password.
  • Once the dashboard opens, check that your name, institution, and department are correct. If you notice any mistake, send an email immediately to NERD support for correction.
  • Select the type of academic work you are uploading from the list of Project, Dissertation, or Thesis. For undergraduates, choose Project.
  • Enter your project title, a short description, and keywords that describe your work.
  • Next, upload (in photo format) the signed certification page of your project. This is the page that carries your name, your supervisor’s name, and your HOD’s name with their signatures.
  • After that, copy and paste your project into the text boxes provided for each section such as abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and conclusion.
  • If you prefer, you can also upload a full PDF version of your project, although this is optional.
  • Once you’ve filled in all sections correctly, click Submit Project.

The system will automatically organize your work and store it in the national database

How to Print Your NERD Clearance Slip

After completing your upload, the next step is to print your NERD clearance slip. This slip is the official proof that your project has been uploaded and validated by the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank. It also confirms that you are now NERD compliant for NYSC mobilization.
To do that:

  1. Return to your dashboard and click ‘Process NERD Clearance’.
  2. Add the details of your supervisor and head of department if the system requests them.
  3. Once everything is verified, your NERD clearance slip will be generated instantly with a National Document Number (NDN).
  4. You can then print it directly from your browser, save as PDF, or send to your email for future use.

Where and When to Submit Your NERD Clearance Slip

As part of your NYSC camp documents, the NERD clearance slip will be required during registration at the orientation camp. It serves as confirmation that your academic work has passed the NERD verification process.

Print at least one physical copy and keep a digital backup on your phone or email. The slip may also be requested later for employment verification or academic reference purposes, so store it carefully.

What This Means for Prospective Corps Members

Once you have your NERD clearance slip, it means your project upload has been reviewed, validated, and accepted into Nigeria’s national education repository. You are now cleared for NYSC registration.

Your school will handle the upload of your academic credentials later as part of the next phase of the NERD implementation. For now, NYSC focuses mainly on the project upload and clearance component.

NERD Clearance Slip For Married Women

While onboarding on the NERD portal, many married female prospective corps members often get confused about which name to use, especially since they will be registering as married during NYSC registration.

When completing your NERD clearance, always use the same name that appears on your school records. NERD verifies every record directly from your institution’s database, so the name on your academic documents must match what your school submitted. If your credentials were issued in your maiden name, that is the name you should use for NERD compliance.

For NYSC registration and other official purposes where your marital name is required, you can present your change of name affidavit and newspaper publication as supporting documents. But for NERD clearance, only the name on your school record is valid.

Helpful Questions on NERD Clearance Slip for NYSC

If you are still unsure about how NERD clearance works or what it means for your NYSC process, the answers below will help clear your doubts.

Is NERD clearance slip compulsory for NYSC?

Yes, NYSC NERD clearance is compulsory for prospective corps members. The Federal Government made it mandatory for all graduates who wish to be mobilized for NYSC. Without it, your name will not be cleared for deployment. However, it has been waived for 2025 Batch C due to the timing of the policy.

Do I need to upload my certificate now?

No, you are only required to upload your project. Your school will handle the upload of your certificates and transcripts through the National Credential Verification Service (NCVS).

What is the difference between NERD and NCVS?

NERD is the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, the main system that houses all academic records.
NCVS, which stands for National Credential Verification Service, is a unit within NERD that handles the official validation and authentication of academic credentials.

How long does NERD clearance take?

Once your project is correctly uploaded and approved, your clearance slip is usually generated within minutes. However, if your supervisor or HOD details still need to be confirmed, it may take a little longer.

What if I graduated before this policy took effect?

Even if you graduated before NERD clearance became mandatory, you are still required to upload your project. The policy applies to all graduates seeking NYSC mobilization, regardless of when they finished school.

Does the NERD policy apply to part-time or exempted graduates?

Yes. NERD clearance is for all graduates from accredited tertiary institutions, whether full-time, part-time, or distance learning. Even if you are exempted from service, your academic work must still be uploaded and verified under NERD as part of the national academic record system.

What happens if I skip NERD clearance?

If you skip NERD clearance, your academic record will not appear in the national database, and you will not be cleared for NYSC mobilization. Every prospective corps member must have a verified record on the NERD system.

Why You Should Take NERD Clearance Seriously

The NERD clearance process is not just another requirement to tick off before NYSC. It is a major step by the Federal Government to build a reliable and traceable academic record system for all graduates in Nigeria.

By completing your NERD clearance, you are securing your academic work in a national database where it can always be verified whenever needed. This protects you from issues like result forgery, lost records, or unnecessary verification delays in the future.

Once your project is verified and stored, it stays there permanently and can be accessed by NYSC, employers, and even foreign missions when required.

NERD clearance is simple, fast, and completely online. If you can use your phone to browse or access social media, you can complete the process on your own.

Even though the NYSC NERD compliance 2025 Batch C is not being enforced right now, PCMs are advised to get familiar with the system early so the transition in 2026 will be smooth. The NERD onboarding portal remains open for voluntary uploads during this pause, which helps students get used to the digital process before it becomes compulsory.

  1. Ok sir hope it doesn’t matter I will be going to camp next year but I enrolled for Nerd now because I saw what happened to NYSC portal when people are plenty on it that is why I tried to do mine now

  2. I just finished the enrollment and I have received confirmation from nerd in my email I tried to login now it is showing me invalid credentials. What may be the issue sir

  3. Please I mistakenly uploaded someone else attestation letter while registering with my phone , now I can’t login on my nerd dashboard because it’s showing invalid credentials, and I have contact their customer services via email to activate my account but no responses from them.😔

  4. Adeoye Abisola Stephnora

I have received a confirmation email from NYSC though I tried registering on my phone, is it possible for the mail to expire before I go to a nearby computer center for completion of the registration

  5. I had a change of name with my school, my name is Owunwanne udochi, I’m now seeing Daniel as part of name in the Approved Senate list in NYSC how can i remove the Daniel Please

  6. Good morning sir… please I’m messaging from your nysc channel… I heard about project file being uploaded on the nysc portal… I want to confirm is it a priority or optional? And if it is a priority for those who don’t have the project file with them again, is there a way to bypass that ?

  7. I’m Obinna. Graduated since 2023, and my name has been on the nysc portal, but hadn’t registered till now.

But I’d like to do the registration now. Pls, does the NERd policy apply to me?…

  8. Good afternoon sir.
My question is about my jamb date of birth.

When I register for jamb, NIN number is not mandatory as it is now. So the date of birth I have in my jamb profile is 03-05-92.

While all my CREDENTIALS including the NIN DOB IS 03-05-97.
will that affect my NYSC process or not.

Do I have to change the DOB IN my jamb profile too?

And how sure it will work if I change the Date?
    Thank you sir

  9. Hi, good morning. Please, I have a question — what about someone who registered and was posted in the last batch but didn’t go? Are we also required to register on the remobilization portal?

    1. Nafiu Muhammad Tsalle

I mistakenly submitted my projects four times but got NDN number of the first one, how can I withdraw the remaining three or make them not considered please?

  10. “After that, copy and paste your project into the text boxes provided for each section such as abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and conclusion.
If you prefer, you can also upload a full PDF version of your project, although this is optional.”

This part is confusing to me, can’t we just upload the complete project work alone and not bother about doing the other one (copying and pasting different sections of the project work into the text boxes)?

    1. No Nimbe, there’s no information about the enrollment process for foreign graduates. I believe updates will be rolled out before the exercise resumes next year.

  11. Please sir can someone who awaits mobilization should also go ahead with this upload of project and other necessary requirements on NERD.

  13. Local man,

Do you know if anyone actually received an email confirming their enrolment request? The email we get after enrolling on NERD that includes the login details also says:

This enrolment request is undergoing review. You will be notified after the review process.

Do you know if the people with clearance slip actually received another email to confirm successful enrolment?

I got the undergoing review email on Tuesday and have heard nothing since. I got the clearance slip but institution name is missing maybe because they haven’t confirmed successful enrolment? Foreign student here, any help is appreciated.

  14. Good Afternoon Local Man, thank you for all your help regarding information on NYSC.

Please does the NERD clearance apply to foreign graduates since we will not appear on the senate list and our process is slightly different?

    1. Good evening. As at this moment, there hasn’t been any update yet from NERD about the process for foreign graduates, or maybe it doesn’t even apply to them. Be patient while things unfold.

  15. Thank you so much fir this , but If I’m to just upload my project in pdf format should it contain the signed page, abstract, introduction, literature review etc or it should just be your work from chapter 1-5 finish?

  16. Hello, pls I have a question. I graduated in 2009 and could not do Nysc because I had a bad accident and life too a turn. I am only physically able to do it now in 2025. I can’t find my project anymore is there any solution for me?

    1. Thank God for your life Efe. I understand that much time has gone but this is the new policy now for those who wants to pass through NYSC. Maybe you should upload a different project now that the verification level is still low.

  17. Good morning Local Man.
Please I just need an advise from you.
I login to upload project then every other details display but the faculty name is not there I manually typed the faculty name during the onboarding since it was not part of the database.
I don’t know whether I should continue without the faculty name displaying?
Thank you for your response in anticipation!

  18. Hello.. I’ve enrolled in nerd since yesterday and I tried to login but it keep saying invalid credentials nd my credentials are all correct
    What could be the issue

    1. Yes, I’ve gotten this complaint many times today. Even though the onboarding application might be under review the maintenance of the NERD portal also contributes to the error message. Be patient.

  19. Good evening Local Man, On my JAMB Admission Letter is: Umah Benjamin Umah. But the name on my Final year Certificate is: Umah Benjamin Iniobong. But, I have been able to successfully correct the name by requesting a new LoC (Letter of Completion) with the name: Umah Benjamin Umah as it appeared on my JAMB Admission Letter in the year I wrote JAMB. So now, the name on my JAMB Admission Letter corresponds to the name on my LoC (To enable me go for NYSC). But the middle name on Certificate is: Umah Benjamin Iniobong. And the name on my Final year project is also: Umah Benjamin Iniobong. I have already filled the NYSC Mobilization Form and submitted necessary documents, would the name on my Project (Umah Benjamin Iniobong) hinder me from going for NYSC? Or is it the new name on my LoC that matters? What should I do? Thank you.

  20. Sir my question is regarding upload of names on senate list .
Sir is possible for a school to release name on the Senate list even when list for the fresh graduating students are not ready, just those that applied for correction

  21. Thank you local man for always responding to our messages
Now I have questions , I’m planning to register with batch C once registration start , am a married woman , I already did the changing of name, newspaper and NiN, I also did a domicile letter at local govt in our area ( bariga) and it has been issued to me , so now we are planning to relocate to ( ikorodu) by December, cos our house has been sold ..so my question here is that if nysc post my PPA in bariga , Can I do change of PPA to ikorodu, and which local govt will I be going to for clearance every months , Is it the initial local govt I used as my domicile or ikorodu local govt that we are moving to ?..
I’m sorry my post is long

    1. You can tell the NYSC officials in camp that your address has changed from when you did the Domicile Letter, so they should put than into consideration when posting you to a PPA.

  22. Please for the onboarding on the detail section which role should I pick cos there’s as graduate but there is undergraduate, researcher etc. which option is for us

  23. Good morning local man
Please I need to be sure of this , can we use any project we are able to lay our hands on or it has to be the one we did back then when we are in school

  24. Hi Local man
My name has been out on my school internal senate list since April but it’s not on NYSC senate list yet. I heard upload is from 20th
Please I also heard that if I don’t do this NERD clearance before then, my school will not upload my name to NYSC senate list. Pls do you know if it’s true??

    1. Yes Gold, senate list upload for Batch C begins on October 20th. Your name will finally be uploaded.

The second statement is false. NYSC senate list has absolutely nothing to do with NERD clearance.

    2. What about people that have already done nysc registration but still waiting for their call up number, are they still going to do the nerd stuff?

  25. Pls I have dis question to ask. Am a graduate Dlc mode university of ibadan,Class of 2017.But due to delay in result and certificate, am unable to undergo NYSC dat year but now result came out last year which I put inn for batch A stream 1 of the year 2025 just to get my exemption letter, now in my portal I always see, (ur exemption letter is under processing). My question now is that is it until the final day for those in service for that batch will my letter be ready or Bfore the end of year service? Pls assist me on dis. Thanks 🙏

  26. Please I want to be clarified on something in this NERD enrollment
I graduated from accountancy department but to select my faculty(school of business studies), what I’m seeing on the nerd site is Business administration and management sciences, I’m confused on which to choose that falls under my department

      1. I bare three names in sch, Owunwanne Udochi Daniel, which i was ealier told that i should remove the name Daniel, because it is not in my WAEC and in my JABM so it won’t affect me on my NYSC REGISTRATION, only to see that my school still sent Owunwanne Udochi Daniel to the Approved Senate list when i checked on it some days ago, so this evening
I wrote a letter to my SAO in sch telling her that i have earlier written a letter to the Registrar for correction of name, which he has approved, the Registrar replied me by saying 👉Register on the NYSC portal, request for name correction on it and do your corrections. So i tried to do this which the SAO told me to do and i was unable to it.!! Please what can i do to correct the name, by removing Daniel, please i really need ur help LOCAL MAN God bless you, I need ur advice thanks

        1. I’ve replied your question on a different thread already. Please stop repeating the same question on the blog.

By the way, the additional name om your school is not a problem. NYSC doesn’t use the name on JAMB or WAEC. They use the name on senate list.

  27. What about me that graduated 2023 but due to some issues i couldn’t serve. Although i registered with this last batch B2 but i couldn’t go. How will i go about the upload of project local man
