What Is NYSC Revalidation And How To Process It?

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilizes eligible Nigerian graduates every year for national service. However, not everyone deployed for service makes it to the orientation camp due to one reason or another. This is where the topic of NYSC revalidation comes in.

Revalidation is a type of NYSC online registration for those who have been deployed in a previous batch but did not show up at camp. Some even made it to camp but were not allowed to register because of incomplete documents.

What is NYSC revalidation

This article breaks down everything you need to know about NYSC revalidation. At the end of this guide, you will be able to tell who needs revalidation, why it is important, and how to do it.

Let’s get started!

What Is NYSC Revalidation?

NYSC revalidation is the process by which Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who were posted in a previous batch but didn’t report to camp are able to register again without starting from scratch. It allows them to be posted again in a new batch without a fresh registration.

Revalidation is just a simple way these category of PCMs tell NYSC that they’re now ready to go for service and would love to be deployed again.

This is different from remobilization, which is for those who started their service but didn’t complete it.

Who Needs NYSC Revalidation?

You need to revalidate if you fall into one of these categories:

  • Mobilized but didn’t go to Camp: Those who registered, got call-up letters, but couldn’t attend the orientation camp due to financial constraints, health issues, personal emergencies, etc.
  • You Deferred Your Posting: These are prospective corps members who intentionally postponed their service to a later batch for personal reasons.
  • Missed Registration Deadlines: If you forgot to check your NYSC dashboard for your call-up letter or arrived at camp too late to register.
  • You Forgot Key Documents: If you couldn’t complete camp registration because you didn’t have required documents like your academic certificate or statement of result.
  • Need to Update Information: You might need revalidation if your details have changed since your initial registration. Some people have wrong names or date of graduation on their certificates that need to be corrected by their school.

Note: If you’ve never been mobilized or didn’t register at all, revalidation doesn’t apply to you.

How Does Revalidation Work?

The NYSC revalidation process is often automatic for prospective corps members who missed camp. This means NYSC may include you in the next batch without requiring extra steps.

However, in some cases, you’ll need to manually revalidate through the NYSC portal. This is only possible when the portal is active for online registrations (e.g. Batch A, B, or C; Stream I or II).

How to Apply for NYSC Revalidation (Step-by-Step)

If you fall into this category, here’s how to revalidate for the next batch:

  1. Go to the NYSC registration portal when online registration is ongoing and click on the mobilization link.
  2. Instead of starting a fresh registration, click on the Revalidation button.
  3. Log in with the email address and password you used for registration in the previous batch.

That’s it. You’ve revalidated!

Your call-up number will be withdrawn from your dashboard and replaced with another one. This will most likely take some time though.

This process is as simple as ABC and can even be done on your smartphone.

Note: In the past, if you registered with Stream I of any batch, you could revalidate with Stream II of the same batch and still be deployed to camp. However, with recent changes in NYSC, revalidation only works between batches, not within. This means NYSC may not deploy you again in the same batch you registered. Instead, you’ll be moved to the next batch before getting another call-up letter.

Revalidation vs. Remobilization: What’s the Difference?

Many PCMs confuse revalidation with remobilization, but they are not the same. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Revalidation: For PCMs who were deployed by NYSC but didn’t go to camp. Some even arrived at camp but were not registered by officials due to one reason or another.
  • Remobilization: For corps members who already started their service but didn’t complete it due to absconding, medical issues, or other reasons. This requires a formal application, NYSC approval, and sometimes additional documents (e.g., marriage certificates for married PCMs or medical reports).

If you’ve participated in the 3-weeks orientation course but didn’t complete your service at your PPA, what you need is remobilization, not revalidation. Remobilized corps members don’t repeat the orientation camp, as NYSC does not allow camping twice.

Frequently Asked Questions About NYSC Revalidation

Is NYSC revalidation free?

Yes, revalidation is free. As explained above, you can even apply for NYSC revalidation on your smartphone, which means you don’t need to visit an accredited cyber cafe.

Can I choose another state of deployment when revalidating?

No, you cannot select a preferred state during revalidation. NYSC will automatically deploy you to any state they deem fit.

For PCMs who are particular about serving in a specific state, you may want to explore the option of direct posting or relocation.

Can I revalidate more than once?

Yes. As long as you haven’t been documented at the NYSC camp or served before, you can always revalidate in a new batch.

Will my details change after revalidation?

No, your personal information and registration details will remain the same. However, your call-up number will change, since every batch has a unique call-up number.

Can I change my NYSC photo or documents during revalidation?

No, you cannot. If you have serious issues that requires attention, you can visit the NYSC secretariat in your state of residence for help.

In conclusion, NYSC revalidation gives you a second chance to serve if you missed camp the first time. It’s simple, free, and only available when a new NYSC registration starts.

If you didn’t show up at camp during your previous posting, don’t panic. Just revalidate and get ready to serve.
