How To Check Your NYSC Call-Up Number

Every PCM knows the feeling of refreshing the portal again and again, waiting for the NYSC call up number to appear. It is the first real proof that your registration went through and that you are truly heading to camp.

In this guide, we’ll explore what the NYSC call-up number means, why it is important, and answers to the key questions prospective corps members ask.

How to get NYSC call up number

What Exactly is the NYSC Call Up Number?

The NYSC call-up number is a unique identification code that every prospective corps member gets after completing online registration.

Together with the state code, it becomes your official identity throughout the one-year service. NYSC uses it to track you at every stage, from camp registration to posting and even during monthly clearance.

This number is generated after online registration and it carries details such as your service year, batch code, and a serial number that belongs only to you.

Why Does the Call-up Number Matter?

The call-up number is more than just a code. It confirms that you have been officially mobilized to serve with a particular batch. Without it, you cannot download your NYSC green card, access your call-up letter, get deployed to camp, or even be recognized as an active corps member.

It also helps NYSC verify your posting, track your records, and identify you in their database. In short, if you do not have a call-up number, you do not have a service year.

NYSC Call Up Number Format and What It Means

The NYSC call-up number is arranged in a way that shows details about your service year, batch, and position on the mobilization list.

A sample call-up number looks like this: NYSC/2025/LAG/206343

Here is the breakdown of each part:

  • NYSC: This shows it is an official number from the National Youth Service Corps.
  • 2025: The service year or year of mobilization.
  • LAG: An abbreviation for the school attended. In this example, it stands for University of Lagos. Every Nigerian school has its own three-letter code while foreign-trained graduates use FRN.
  • 206343: A unique serial number given to the corps member for identification.

This format makes it easy for NYSC to manage thousands of graduates without confusion. It also means no two people can ever share the same call-up number.

How to Check Your NYSC Call Up Number

The call-up number is not a separate document you can print on its own. It is an identifier that shows up on your dashboard and also appears on documents like the green card and call-up letter.

Steps to see your call-up number:

1. Log in to your NYSC portal dashboard.

2. Under the basic details section, you will find your call-up number displayed just below your email address.

Sample of NYSC call up number

Keep in mind that the call-up number only becomes visible once NYSC has released it and you have met the requirement for printing the green card.

NYSC documents that carry the call-up number

  • Green Card: Contains your personal details and the call-up number. It is proof that your registration was completed online.
  • Call-up Letter: This is your official deployment letter with instructions for camp. It also has your call-up number among the listed details.

Both of these documents are compulsory for camp registration and should be printed in colour.

Timeline for the Issuance of NYSC Call up Numbers

Under normal circumstances, NYSC issues call-up numbers within 24 hours after you complete online registration. For foreign-trained graduates, the number comes later because it will only be released after they have been cleared during the physical verification exercise.

However, things do not always follow that smooth path. Because of the large number of graduates registering at the same time, NYSC sometimes holds back call-up numbers. They cannot send everyone to camp in one batch, so the release is staggered.

This is why some PCMs get their call-up numbers quickly while others have to wait. Those who do not get theirs immediately may end up being shifted to the next batch.

What to Do If Your Call-up Number Is Delayed

It can be frustrating to complete your registration and still not see your NYSC call up number. If that happens, here are steps that can help:

Confirm your payment

Make sure the payment for your callup letter was successful. If your Remita payment failed, NYSC will not generate your call-up number and you will not be able to access your green card. To fix this, log in to the portal with your registered email and check your payment status.

Check your NYSC dashboard regularly

Do not assume it will show up without checking. Keep logging in to your dashboard every day to know when the number is released.

Be patient for your NYSC Call Up Number

Delays are common during peak registration periods. Sometimes the numbers are released in batches, so it may take a while before yours comes out.

Accept the obvious

If your call-up number does not come out when most others already have theirs, it could mean you have been shifted to the next batch. It is not pleasant but it is better to accept it early and prepare for the new batch.

📌 Bonus: Message on Whatsapp to process your medical fitness certificate. It is a compulsory requirement for camp registration.

Why Do PCMs Need the NYSC Call Up Number?

The call-up number is not just a formality. For many PCMs, it brings real relief once it appears on their dashboard. Here are the main reasons it matters so much:

Confirmation of successful registration

Seeing your call-up number shows that your registration was done correctly and accepted by NYSC. Without it, there is no proof that you have been mobilized for that batch.

Used for processing direct posting

In practice, the call-up number is what people who help with direct posting use. Since the number uniquely identifies you in the NYSC system, it is what they rely on to influence or process the state you want. That is why many PCMs get anxious when their call-up number has not shown yet, because without it, nothing can be done about their posting request.

Likelihood of deployment to the orientation camp

Availability of the call-up number is a strong sign that you will be going with that batch to camp. It serves as a form of guarantee that your mobilization is complete and your deployment is secured. Without it, you cannot get a call-up letter, and without that letter, you cannot enter camp.

In other words, you can relax once your call-up number is out. It means your registration is valid, your posting request can be worked on, and there is a very high chance you will be in camp with that batch.

Difference Between NYSC Call up Number and State Code

Many prospective corps members confuse the call-up number with the state code, but the two are not the same. Even though both of them are important, they serve different purposes in your NYSC journey.

What is the NYSC State Code?

The state code is a unique number given to you after you report to the orientation camp. It identifies you within the state where you are deployed and remains with you throughout your service year.

For example: IM/25A/1023

IM – Abbreviation for the state, in this case Imo State.

25A – Service year and stream, here 2025 Batch A.

1023 – Your personal identification number within that state.

How it differs from the call-up number

Call-Up NumberState Code
The call-up number appears on your dashboard after online registration. It is given only after documentation at the orientation camp.
It confirms your mobilization and shows that you belong to a batch.Links you to a specific state and this is what you’ll use for clearance, PPA records, and allowances.
The call-up number is national. NYSC uses it to identify you across Nigeria. The state code is local. It only identifies you within your deployed state.

Helpful Questions on NYSC Call up Number

Can I get my call-up number without printing the call-up letter?

Yes. Your call-up number first appears on your dashboard after successful registration and payment. You do not need to wait for the call-up letter before you see it.

What if my call-up number does not appear after registration?

How do I retrieve a forgotten call-up number?

Log in to your NYSC portal dashboard. Your call-up number is displayed under your basic details and also appears on your green card and call-up letter which you can reprint anytime.

What should I do if my call-up number is incorrect?

Call-up numbers are system-generated and cannot be wrong. If you see one on your dashboard, that is your correct number.

Does the call-up number guarantee deployment to camp?

Not completely. Having one is a strong sign that you will serve with that batch, but NYSC sometimes shifts PCMs to another stream when camps are full.

What is the length and format of the call-up number?

It usually looks like: NYSC/2025/LAG/206342. The format has four parts: the NYSC tag, the service year, your institution code, and your unique serial number.

Can I change my deployment state after getting the call-up letter?

Not directly. However, NYSC allows relocation on certain grounds such as marital status, health, or security reasons.

Why do I need to pay ₦3,000 for the call-up letter?

The fee covers the online printing of your call-up letter. Without payment, you cannot be issued a call-up number or print the letter.

More Questions on NYSC

How do I know my NYSC batch and stream?

Your call-up letter shows it clearly, for example Batch B Stream II. That helps you know your reporting date and the stream you belong to.

Is the NYSC call up number the same as my matric number?

No. Your matric number comes from your school while the call-up number is assigned by NYSC for mobilization.

Do foreign-trained graduates get call-up numbers?

Yes. Once they finish registration and pass physical verification, NYSC assigns them call-up numbers like every other PCM.

Can I serve without a call-up number?

No. The call-up number is your official NYSC identity. Without it, you cannot be deployed, enter camp, or serve at all.

Why is my friend’s call-up number out but mine isn’t?

NYSC does not release all numbers at the same time. Some PCMs get theirs early while others wait. Keep checking your dashboard until yours comes out.

Is the call-up number the same as the state code?

No. The call-up number comes out before camp, while the state code is given only after documentation in camp.

Can my NYSC call up number change?

Yes. Once you get one it stays fixed for that batch, but if you miss camp or are not deployed, you will need to revalidate in a later batch. When that happens, NYSC issues you a new call-up number tied to the new batch.

    1. Good evening Local Man.

During the online registration On Nysc portal I am unable to login, I keep seeing my date of Birth Conversion from string (My DOB) to type Date is not valid.

      Please what do I do?

  34. Good morning local man, please my question is about NYSC call up number. I did registration with previous batch that’s batch B2 but I was not given call up number. And the payment status then was showing successful/approved. Now I after reading through this article I checked my payment status on my dashboard the space is blanked. Please any cause of alarm.

  35. Local man welldone. All the tips you have given via your channel has very helpful.
I’ve an issue with my DOB. The issue is that my real DOB which is on my school certificate and NIN should ideally get me an exemption from NYSC. However the DOB year filled during jamb registration is wrong and sadly the one on waec certificate is wrong as well in day month and year.
I mentioned this cos I saw that the waec could be used to rectify the DOB.
I didn’t want to go for NYSC before but it’s looking like I will have to.
My question is can this be rectified and if it can’t, can it affect my registration and maybe in camp as well.
Thank you for your timely response.

  36. Good morning
Pls I would like to ask

    I’m a foreign trained student

  39. I did my NYSC registration sometimes September last month… someone else’s email was used for me but i used my own password together with the mail. The owner of the mail doesn’t have access to the password I used with her mail…I have been logging in with the Same mail and the password I used and it usually direct me to my dashboard..but I’m yet to get my call up number. So I’m worried..and the mail used was outlook.com, I’m I safe from NYSC with the use of outlook.com and won’t that affect my call up number?.

    1. If the status of the concessional posting on health ground is showing declined, the message is clear. They are not considering his case.

If indeed he has the health challenge then he has to go to the NYSC state secretariat in Akure and complain about it. They will escalate his complaint to the NYSC headquarters for immediate action.

  42. My NIN has 3 names which is Ephraim confidence eke and my jamb has 2 names which is Ephraim confidence but my credentials have 3 names
