How Much Money Is Needed For NYSC Camp?

The orientation camp is a unique experience that offers a blend of adventure and friendship. But before you step into that camp, one of the most important things you need to have in check is your finances. Hence, the reason why I tag this “NYSC camp budget.”

The camp is enjoyable when you’re well-prepared, and that begins with proper budgeting. From daily meals to personal necessities, knowing how much to allocate can transform the camp experience into a memorable journey rather than a financial burden.

In this guide, you will know the important expenses that can help you create a realistic budget. This way, you can go to NYSC camp with confidence and peace of mind, focusing on making memories rather than worrying about money.

NYSC camp budget

For clarity, this article ONLY addresses the money you will need for your daily upkeep in camp. It doesn’t talk about the amount needed for the purchase of the essential items needed in camp, the cost of transportation to camp, shaping of khaki, etc. I advise you budget for those separately.

How Much Money Do I Need to Enjoy NYSC Camp?

The answer to this question is relative as everyone’s situation is different. There is no one-answer-fits-it-all because individual preferences and capabilities vary.

As Local Man wey I be, here are the categories of corps members I met while I was in Taraba camp in 2015. I believe you will find an answer here regardless of your economic status.

Points To Note:

📌 You are entitled to three meals daily from NYSC.

📌 You’ll receive a meal ticket in camp to access these meals.

📌 If you’re picky about food or prefer specific meals, you might not enjoy these foods.

📌 On average, a plate of food at the camp’s market (maami) costs around 1,000 naira. This amount is factored into this budget calculations.

Even though it was a template that worked back in those days, I’ve reviewed the NYSC camp budget to reflect the current economic reality in the country.

Having said that, let’s get right into it.

The Manager

This category described me perfectly because I practically managed myself when I was in camp. 😂 If you’re working on a tight budget, this approach should work for you too.

👉 Spend 1000 naira per day which totals about 20,000 naira for the entire camp.

👉 Eat three meals a day from the camp kitchen. No unnecessary forming or pretense. 😂

👉 You might not even spend all the money, which means you could save some and treat yourself to 5,000 naira suya on weekends along with a chilled bottle of Coke.

NYSC Camp Budget for “The Average Guy”

This is the “not so rich, not so poor” category. With a budget of 50,000 – 60,000 naira to spend in camp, you’re set.

📌 You can spend about 2,500 naira per day, which adds up to 50k for the entire camp during.

📌 This will help you afford one decent meal a day at maami while relying on the camp kitchen for the other two meals.

📌 There should still be some money left for snacks, soft drinks, beer, and other small extras.

This way, you’ll be comfortable without overspending.

Important: Message me on Whatsapp to process your medical fitness certificate for registration in camp. You will NOT be registered in camp without it.

The Balling Guy (Odogwu)

As the name suggests, this category is for those with deep pockets who don’t need to check their wallets before spending. It’s not for the faint-hearted.

🔰 You’ll be spending around 6k daily which totals around 120,000 naira during your stay in camp.

🔰 All your meals will be eaten at maami market with cold drinks to wash them down.

But that’s just the starting point. As a balling guy, you might need to double (or even triple) this NYSC camp budget if you:

🔰 Plan on taking girls out to shawarma joints or restaurants.

🔰 Want to treat your guys to chilled bottles every night.

Remember, living large comes with a hefty price tag!

Smart Advice for NYSC Camp Budgeting

You can be like the Average guy and still enjoy camp. A budget of 50,000 naira, after covering transportation and other expenses should be good enough.

However, if your finances only allow for a more careful approach, you can still have a great time by being a Manager like me.😀

Don’t stretch yourself beyond your limits.

To my female readers, getting by in camp won’t be much of a problem since guys will definitely try to impress you by taking you out every now and then to maami market.

For the guys, I strongly advise against spending money to impress girls. It’s a quick way to drain your funds, and trust me, it’s not worth it.

That’s all for now.

Let me hear your thoughts below on how much you’re budgeting for the orientation camp, as well as any suggestions on how I can further improve this article.

  1. Good evening. I just want to ask a question about PPA letter and how to go about it. From the example you posted you included state coordinators name, if we have not been posted yet how do we know the state coordinators name? Are we to take the letter with us to camp or submit them at the state coordinators office and if we are to take it to camp do we submit it at registration in camp? Since we don’t have State code yet do we omit it? And can it be printed on a particular paper or any A4 will do?
    Sorry for the many questions.

    1. If you are getting a request letter to be posted to an organization within a particular state, isn’t it obvious that you already know you will be posted to that state even before getting a request letter? Since you can make an effort to influence direct posting to that state, what stops from doing a research about the name of the state coordinator?

Use your call-up number. Submit the letter to your platoon officer.

      1. Good evening there is really no need to be rude, I thought the position of state coordinator changes with each batch Besides there is a saying, person when ask questions no dey miss road. I know the questions are a lot that’s why I apologized. But I understand that things/people can be a lot.

My name in NIN is spelt as Godgift while in my Certificate is Godsgift and I’ve gone to change that in NIN and my date of graduation is different from what is written in my certificate and I’m also going for the rectification in my school before the next batch of registration begins.

  16. Local man, abeg no vex, if person come get call up number and call up letter on the day of NYSC swearing in, and the place wey dem deploy am dey far, how d person go take do registration cus I think say registration dey end on the day of swearing in?
Let’s assume say the place NYSC deployed the person is Sokoto which is up to 3 days from Onitsha (Anambra State), how are you going to cope and beat the deadline day?

Please I need clarification(s), pls sir

    1. First of all, there is no place in Nigeria that requires traveling to for 3 days except you experience vehicle breakdowns.

About meeting up for registration, you have 5 days from when call-up letter is released to when registration ends. Trust me, that is enough for anyone. NYSC has been using that system for years so they would have changed it if it weren’t feasible.

  17. Hi local man,
Initially when I did my nin there was a glitch, instead of osun state, Lagos state was stated and that was what reflected on my jamb portal
Then on my school portal I used Lagos because that was what is on my nin
But recently I corrected my name on nin and it was updated, so osun state has reflected on it

    Will this affect NYSC registration

  18. Local man, please If I want to submit a request letter must the company be registered under NYSC or it can be any company?
My uncle has a small construction business and I intend to serve there so I can continue working there

    1. Yes, the company must have registered its intention to receive corps members before the state NYSC can include it in their database. If you’re really serious about it, your uncle will need to visit the NYSC state secretariat.

  19. I wasn’t an odogwu but.. I never ate kitchen food… it’s not like the maami food was any better, I suffered Ehn…. I used to eat once or twice a day coz the food in sokoto to me was just disgusting

  20. Good evening local Man, please i need to be cleared on something, I have been disturbed about it
I was part of the people that tried to register for NYSC last year, but i couldn’t complete my registration, I stopped at thumb printing after this i noticed i need to remove a name which i don’t have on my notification of results, on My notification of results frm my sch i bare udochi Owunwanne, but when my name appeared on the Senate list for NYSC i saw udochi Owunwanne Daniel, so i contacted my school so they can link up with NYSC to remove the name Daniel, my sch are on it.! So please what i want to e clear on is when the NYSC registration is out for the next batch this year what should i do.!!thanks as i get your reply, God bless

      1. Im a nursing mother is there any need for me to buy the nysc kits or still make a budget to camp since I will not partake with them.

  21. My Experience with Budgeting in Osun Camp

Honestly speaking I didn’t ball, if I bought a girl food it was only once, I was active at least twice a day with kitchen food because I prefer eating food twice even at home.

The only time I’ll eat once with kitchen food is when I don’t like what they want to prepare in the afternoon and night which happened only once every week, then I’ll go to mami to eat the second meal.

But Local Man, I swear I didn’t understand what was eating my money. You’ll hear contribution for this and that, I’ll charge both phone and power bank once a day(everyday), because my power bank wasn’t that strong anymore. When I was done with camp the 77k felt like a “thanks for coming” compensation because I spent more than that and am not a baller🥲

  22. Good evening sir
I did my ND as a part time but did my HND as a full time
And I am well aware that NYSC has been flagging previous PCM that did same process as me and giving them exclusion letter, even though they registered under full time registration portal, they were still flagged and given exclusion letter now i was told that the NYSC portal for Part-time registration is open ,should I register there to get my exclusion letter or wait for the next fresh full time registration to get my own letter

    1. That’s a valid question. I’ll suggest you wait for the normal registration window to open, who knows whether the policy may have changed by then. But if you don’t mind getting the Exclusion Letter, you can go ahead and try the registration.

  23. Good morning sir
Please the arrangement of name on my school ID card and my results are different. Please will it cause any issues at the camp?

  24. kachi omolope splendour

    Hello! Local man
Will it be a problem in camp if the date of birth on my jamb is not same with the one I used in my school and on my NIN?

  25. Onigah Boniface Ogar

Being a manager is advisable and I will be in that category, pls talk on other expenses like washing of clothes, charging of phone and safety measures of one properties, lastly, is garri allowed into the camp ?

  26. Hello good morning sir
I would like to genuinely ask if there’s any problem with the format of dates in my SOR and my Green card.
In my SOR it was written as MM/DD/YY while on the Green card it was written as DD/MM/YY.
    Thank you sir.

  27. Sir good morning 🌞 plz I don’t have money to buy the kit can I still go bcuz I Heard they do give at the camp sir as everyone is buying like as if they are not giving out of its compulsory or mandatory to buy

  28. Good evening sir….is there any other money we are going to pay in camp….like during registration…….is yes …like how much….. thanks

  29. Normally I was budgeting around 40-50k for the whole thing, Infact I do even wish to spend all if possible , we would manage whatever camp kitchen provides😂 except some certain foods I can’t tolerate which can’t be all the time I assume

    1. How do you think Nysc give out call up number. Do the give it out according to your serial number on the Senate list or how you registered, what are the possibilities of them giving out call up letter to someone who registered on the last day before someone who registered on the first day.

  30. I’m studying Business (ND) and Marketing (HND), and I’m wondering if this combination will impact my NYSC experience. Will my diverse background be beneficial or pose challenges during the camp?
