If you’re a corps member or about to become one, you’ve probably heard people talk about NYSC relocation or redeployment.
Both terms mean the same thing.

It’s the process of transferring from the state where you were originally posted to serve, to a different state.
It’s important to know that NYSC relocation is not automatic. You have to apply for it, and your request will only be approved if it meets certain conditions set by NYSC.
In simple terms, your application may be approved or rejected depending on how well your circumstances align with the established guidelines.
Types of NYSC Relocation
There are four instances on which you can apply for NYSC relocation, especially during the three weeks orientation camp. These are:
- Marital Ground
- Insecurity
- Health Reasons
- DG’s Directive (a.k.a Sure Plug)
Let’s go over them one by one.
NYSC Relocation on Marital Ground
This option is exclusively available to married female corps members who wish to serve in the state where their husband resides.
To successfully apply for NYSC relocation on marital ground, you’ll need to provide:
- Original marriage certificate
- Domicile letter confirming husband’s residence.
- Recent utility bill
- Husband’s valid identification card
- Any other supporting document.
Applications on marital ground typically have a good approval rate when all required documents are properly submitted.
Security Concerns as Basis for Relocation
If your state of deployment faces significant security challenges, you may qualify for NYSC relocation. States with recognized security issues like Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa often have relocation requests approved more readily.
However, it’s crucial to note that while you might be relocated from these states, NYSC reserves the right to post you to any state they deem appropriate, not necessarily your preferred choice. The goal here is your safety, not personal convenience.
Health Reasons
Corps members who have serious health conditions that require special care can also apply for NYSC relocation. You must provide comprehensive medical documentation from recognized healthcare providers to support your application.
Similar to relocation on insecurity, health-based NYSC relocation may not guarantee placement in your state of preference.
If approved, the NYSC management will determine the most suitable state based on your medical needs and available facilities.
For medical documents, ensure you obtain comprehensive reports for a better chance of success. You can send a Whatsapp message for help.
NYSC Relocation on DG’s Directive
The NYSC relocation on DG directives is the most flexible and effective relocation method. It means the NYSC Director-General has given a special instruction for your redeployment which must be obeyed.
Although this option is more expensive, it is the most reliable way to get NYSC relocation to your state of choice, including popular states like Lagos or Abuja.
However, you need to be cautious here.
Since this method involves unofficial arrangements, many scammers take advantage to either rip corps members off their money or charge insanely ridiculous amounts.
Ensure you commit your money only to trusted plugs who have track records of payment refund if it doesn’t work out.

How to Apply for Relocation on NYSC Portal
You can apply for relocation once you get your State Code in camp. This option shows up on your NYSC dashboard immediately after camp registration. If you plan to use it, follow these steps carefully.
- Log in to the NYSC relocation portal.
- Click on the “relocation” button above your passport photograph. This will bring up the application page.
- Under the “reason for relocation” select the reason that applies to you. The options are marital, health, or insecurity.
- In the description box, give a short explanation of why you want to be relocated.
- Choose the state you want NYSC to redeploy you to.
- Upload the document(s) that support your reason. Each file must not be more than 200kb.
- Submit your application.
If you see a success message, it means your application has been received and will be reviewed. The result is usually released on the last day of camp.
Sometimes the application may not go through. In that case, try choosing a different state. Remember that relocation through this method is not allowed to Lagos, Abuja, your state of origin, the state where you studied, or if you are a medical graduate.
📌 Message me on Whatsapp if you need a comprehensive medical report to support your application on health ground.
Note: There’s a relocation schedule for every Stream which is communicated from the NYSC headquarters to the 37 orientation camps. I strongly advise you wait for clear instructions from camp officials before applying for NYSC relocation on your dashboard.
What Is Outcamp Relocation?
NYSC Outcamp relocation, also called out-of-camp relocation, is exactly what it sounds like. It refers to relocation requests made by serving corps members after they’ve completed the NYSC orientation camp.
While some corps members address it as NYSC relocation after camp, it is the opposite of in-camp relocation which is done while you’re still in camp.
Although “out camp relocation” isn’t an official NYSC term, it’s the common way corps members describe relocation that’s processed long after camp has ended.
Possible Disadvantages of NYSC Relocation
The NYSC relocation process may feel like a good option after a disappointing posting, but it has several downsides. One major disadvantage is the cost of transportation to camp.
Since it is not possible to relocate to another state without first registering at the orientation camp in your initial state of deployment, you have to consider the financial implications of traveling back and forth. With the high cost of transportation in Nigeria, the money spent can be significant. This is why many prospective corps members prefer direct posting.
Another problem is that the outcome of a relocation request is not guaranteed, especially if it’s not processed on DG directives. You may apply with the hope of moving to a particular state but NYSC can relocate you to a completely different one or even deny the application altogether. This can disrupt your plans.
Even if your relocation approval works out as expected, settling down in the new state takes time. Posting to the Place of Primary Assignment does not happen immediately after documentation, which can leave corps members idle while their colleagues are already settled. Some even wait weeks before resuming fully at their new PPA.
Finally, relocation sometimes affects opportunities. Many corps members form useful connections in their original state of deployment, but moving to another state after camp can cut you off from those networks and experiences.
NYSC Relocation After 3 Months
There is a common belief that corps members cannot apply for relocation after the orientation course until they have spent at least three months at their PPA. This is not true.
While it is correct that corps members are usually sensitized about the NYSC relocation process during camp, the “three months rule” is mostly a way to discourage them from leaving immediately. In reality, many corps members get used to their PPA within the first few weeks, and by the time three months have passed, they may no longer feel the need to relocate.
Outcamp relocation, as it is informally called, can actually be processed anytime after camp, even within 24 hours from the close of camp. However, approval at this level usually requires influence within the system.
Corps members should be very careful about people who will promise to secure relocation approval at this stage. Many end up being scammed so it is important to verify before committing money to anyone.
Important Things To Note About Relocation
Having discussed the various types of NYSC relocation, here are some tips to guide you…
Timing is Critical: The orientation camp period presents the best opportunity for NYSC relocation. The process becomes increasingly more challenging after concluding your camp activities.
Medical Limitations: Using medical reports for relocation cannot work to high-demand states like Lagos, Abuja, or your state of origin. NYSC has strict policies against such relocations to maintain fairness in deployment.
Documentation is Key: Whatever reasons you’re applying on, ensure all your supporting documents are complete and properly submitted.
Manage Your Expectations: Even with valid grounds for NYSC relocation, there’s no guarantee you’ll be posted to your state of choice. The final decision rests with the NYSC management.
Advise From a Point of Experience
NYSC relocation can be a lifesaver if you have genuine reasons to move. Whether it’s health, security, or marriage, make sure you prepare your documents and apply on time.
If you’re considering using the DG’s directive method, be extra careful not to fall victim to preying scammers.
That’s all about the categories of NYSC relocation. I hope this has been helpful for you.
